Since 2000, The Wild Institute has been welcoming women who want to
experience wild places. We go to great lengths to match you with a
trip that fits what you’re looking for, whether you’re new to
outdoor travel or an old hand; whether you want to go deep into the
wilderness, or enjoy the comforts of a cabin at nature’s edge.
The WILD Institute believes that wilderness is less about struggle and stress, and
more about connection to self, others, and the earth. So, Wild
Institute trips are carefully designed with a blend of physical
challenge, quiet introspection, laughter and conversation, and
exploration of our beautiful, wild world.
All trips are led by Chris Heeter, founding director of The Wild
Institute. Chris has over 20 years of experience guiding trips, so
participants can count on excellent leadership crafted especially
for women.
When Chris isn’t leading trips, she travels across the country
bringing the wisdom of wild places into conference centers and
corporations. Her calm,
intriguing style, exceptional storytelling and challenging subjects
deliver powerful insights to even the most urban of professionals.
Topics long discussed in the world of work, such as teamwork and
improved communication, productivity and balance, women and
leadership, and overcoming obstacles are revisited with humor and clarity with the help of sled dog
anecdotes and equipment, images from nature, and memorable stories drawn from
decades of professional leadership experience in wild places.
We need wildness – freedom to let our senses expand, to try new
things, to use our bodies, to live closer to the earth.
We need to store up images that sustain us and give us hope when we
are away from wild rivers, rocks, and trees.
We need laughter, peaceful quiet times, easy companionship, exciting
challenges, deep conversations, and a sense of belonging to place.
May we all know peace. May we all have opportunities to be at home
in wild places.

-- CHRIS HEETER
