Speaking FAQ

I welcome the opportunity to talk with you, to hear your needs for your event, and to explore together if my style is right for your audience.  Below are answers to some questions you might have, and if others come to mind don’t hesitate to ask.

What’s next? If it feels like a good fit, please give me a call at 763-479-3954 and lets talk about your event.

Thanks for your interest.

1. Will you customize your program for our organization?
Yes, every program may be customized based on conversations with you regarding your event and audience. Your event is what matters, and I will work with you to make sure that the program lines up with your goals, hopes, and highest expectations.

2. Can we change the titles of your programs?
Yes, we can change the title. The titles listed on the website are useful to introduce the topic, but can easily be adapted to the theme of your event.

3. What size group do you typically work with?
There is quite a range, from very small groups of 15 to several hundred or more.  It’s important to know the projected size of your group as it impacts the design of the program.  For our “Day on the River” program, we can work with up to 20 people.  For our on-site teambuilding workshops, the typical participant size is 30-70.  Keynotes and breakout sessions can be any size.

4. Who is your “typical” audience?
I speak to a wide range of audiences, from corporate to grass roots organizations.  The common thread is a desire for inspiration and expertise presented with interesting, highly applicable, and out of the ordinary ways of looking at topics long discussed in the world of work.

5. What is the “typical” length of your program?
Keynotes and breakout sessions are generally 60 to 90 minutes in length. I also provide day-long offsite programs in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area (see Day on the River). Half or whole day onsite programs are also available.

6. Do you speak on topics beyond what is listed on the site?
Yes, please ask me if you have a topic that is not listed. Often there is enough cross-over that new and exciting programs grow out of these conversations.  For example, I was asked to speak on children in the outdoors and created a program called “No Child Left Inside” that is now being requested more and more.

And of course, if it is not an area of my expertise, I would be happy to refer you to other highly qualified speakers on your topic.

7. What are the advantages and disadvantages of having you speak to our organization more than once?
There are no disadvantages. In fact, the feedback I consistently receive is that my audiences want me to return. Keynotes often lead to speeches on other topics or more in depth training. I have a wealth of material that is interesting and inspiring, and people who have previously heard me speak are often my most enthusiastic audiences.

8. What is your “style” of speaking?
Imaginative, insightful, and inspiring.

At the end of the day people need to feel valued and reminded that the work they do really matters, whether they are CEOs or front line workers.  My presentations compel people to grow and push themselves as leaders or team members or just as individuals, all in a very positive and affirming context.

I am known for metaphors and down to earth tools drawn from memorable stories of nature, sled dogs, and wilderness trips.  Countless audience evaluations remark on my peaceful approach, the refreshing change from “typical speakers,” and how much valuable information they gain regarding their professional and personal lives.
